Default BBC iplayer keeps starting and stopping

when I play something from BBc iplayer it keeps stopping afer a few seconds, reloads starts again, then continues, stops sometimes for longer periods and starts again, coniuing that pattern. It also happens on utube. Why does this happen.

This is usually because the broadband speed isn't sufficient to maintain the video stream. It therefore stops to catch up and may indicates that it is "buffering".

This can be because:

a) your own broadband speed is not fast enough.
b) you are streaming video at a peak time when others sharing your "contended" service are slowing things down.
c) heavy demand for particular video is overloading the server.

I have a 10Mbps Cable connection and there are times when particular programmes on BBC iPlayer just won't work or continuously re-buffer. That has to be due to the server being unable to meet the demand.

Thanks for your reply. I have NTL or Virgin as it is now, but I am not sure what my broadband speed is, except that it meets my need for all other purposes other than the problem mentioned. Since the trouble I had was a Sunday, maybe there were a lot of people doing the same thing as you say.
