Cannot delete a search Engine

Hi there..
This morning I tried to watch F1 on my pc and needed to download something or other in able to watch it ( it never worked so am annoyed now) anyway i have got rid of the said programme off my pc but am left with my home page as http://www.searchnu.com/406... I use google Chrome and have re set it as my home page but this blooming searchnu will not go... its not anywhere in my programmes either.

I have deleted all internet files/ history.. deleted all "under the bonnet" things in Chrome.. and done a full scan too, even a system restore but this searchnu will not go.
Please can someone help me?

Hiya Tracy,

Run the folling and see if that problem goes:

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.

• Please close all open programs and internet browsers.
• Double click on Adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
• Click on Delete.
• Confirm each time with OK.
• Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
• Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
• You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

Post the log and give an update on issue..

As i try to double click the link it says "insufficient permissions" so i cannot get into it.

i decided to restart to see if i could get the link to work which it has but all it showed was my AVG antivirus which i said was ok.. and clicked the recommend..
it did something for about 5 seconds but never rebooted.

Also before i saw your 1st reply on here i thought i would try adaware so got it onto my pc.. it seemed to make my pc go funny and very slow so i have uninstalled it but now, as well as the usearch when i open chrome, i also get lavasoft opening too!!!

oh and now as well as all these things when i left click and hold my mouse down that dosnt work!! the only way i can scroll is by the side bar...

Run the following:

Download and save DDS to your Desktop from either of the following links:

Link 1
Link 2

Double click DDS to run the scan, Vista or Windows 7 user accept UAC alert.
There will be an alert that two logs will be saved to the Desktop, DDS.txt and Attach.txt
Copy and paste those two logs to your reply when the scan is complete....

Oh what a day!
I have finally got it sorted...

After doing a system restore further back than i originally did i then clicked your original link... when i tried yesterday it recommended i keep my avg and then never restarted... Today i clicked the other option and lo and behold it resterted my laptop...

On re starting a small box appeared on screen with something written but it was so quick to go i never go the chance to see what it actually said..

You say:

If you let me know where to type to find the above i will but also a order number?

The issue is now resolved and i now have my usual home screen.. Thank you ever so much for all of your help, xx


EDITED TO ADD i have just come out of chrome and gone back in and both the original blooming things are back

The searchnu entry is not safe, Lavasoft entry depends exactly what is running.

The adwcleaner log is found by navigating to C:\ there you will find the entry :-

AdwCleaner[Sn].txt n will be a number relating to the scan number, eg 1 = the first scan, 2 = second scan and so on.

Run the following and post the logs so I can see what is on your system:

Download OTL from any of the following links and save to your desktop.

Link 3

Double click the icon to start the tool. (Note: If you are running on Vista or Windows 7 accept UAC alert)

• When the window appears, underneath Output at the top, make sure Standard output is selected.
• Select Scan all users
• Under the Extra Registry section, check Use SafeList
• In the lower right corner, checkmark "LOP Check" and checkmark "Purity Check".
• Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
• When the scan is complete, two text files will be created on your Desktop.
• OTL.Txt <- this one will be opened
• Extras.txt <- this one will be minimized

Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of OTL.Txt and the Extras.txt in your next reply.

If these logs exceed the forum character limit zip the files and attach to your reply....
