Default Expired files removed on OneDrive

Web User mag says on page 27 that OneDrive files expire after one year of inactivity.

What does that mean exactly? Does it mean if I don't look at OneDrive for a year the saved files are removed; does it mean individual files need to be looked at once every year or they are removed?

I have legal stuff saved on OneDrive thinking it would be safe for as long as I needed it but I would not be looking at it once a year.

Thanks.

Nothing about removal. You simply lose the ability to upload more once your subscription expires

Sorry for slow response, I didn't get the expected email notification of a reply.

I had asked Microsoft about this and they just replied as follows:

Begins:

Thank you for sharing your concern.

Yes, because of inactivity your account get freeze and after a year it get disable and data get delete.
For more information refer to the link Microsoft Services Agreement. Ends.

That sounds like a good argument for storing/saving your data on terra firma.

Another response from Microsoft. I can't see the logic in this. I pay for Office 365 every year so why would they kick my stuff off OneDrive unless I log in.

I can look at my Outlook emails without logging in.

BTW, I am still not getting email notifications of replies to this topic. Nothing in the junk folder:

Reply begins:

Login into one particular service of Microsoft account will count activity fro that particular service. You must login on to website https://login.live.com, https://outlook.live.com and https://onedrive.live.com once in a month.

As you are paying for a service, in that case you will be notify by email, if something need to prevent from happening.

But in safe case scenario, once in a while access Microsoft service from the web portal.

Let us know if you have any other question.

Hmmm. I too am a 365 subscriber and have documents from 2014 which have not been erased and i have not logged into OneDrive in this period

Saying that i do edit and save to OneDrive from within the 365 applications (Word Excel et al) so that perhaps serves as "accessing OneDrive" even though i'm not using OneDrive directly

What Operating System are you using. I have One Drive on the Desktop which automatically Sync and looking for changes so that perhaps counts as access too.
