Default Not Responding ! Help

I keep getting this message in program headings, usually starts in Firefox but eventually affects everything. Laptop slows to a virtual standstill. Can take 30 seconds or more to open an explorer window or even a context menu.
If I reboot it's OK again for a couple of days but always starts again.
I have scanned with Kaspersky, Malwarebytes and Adwcleaner, all OK.
I am also getting 'Unresponsive Script' message boxes, usually after waking from sleep. Most of these mention Chrome although that browser is not open, I hardly ever use it preferring Firefox.
I don't know if these two things are connected or not.
I am thinking of uninstalling Chrome to see if that helps.
Anybody have any other ideas? THanks.

If you don't use Chrome then there's no point in having it installed and uninstalling that will eliminate it.

Something seems to be using up your memory and it could be one or more of the add-ons in Firefox.

Running Firefox in its Safe Mode to see if the problem clears up will point to one or more add-ons and you will then need to re-enable one at a time until the problem starts again.

There's some more info on this in this article. - https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001479.htm

Thank you for that advice Cantrel. I also have had a similar problem today with Firefox continually showing "not responding".

Starting in safe mode it appears that the add on Shockwave flash (automatically updated only today) was the culprit.

De-activation cured the problem.
Thanks again.

Well that's good news - do you have the option ask to activate for that add-on ?

It was on a machine running Windows 7 I had the problem, and yes it does give me the option to ask to activate.

Well it's sod's law isn't it.

Since I started this thread the laptop has been behaving itself.

The only changes are that there has been a Windows Update and I uninstalled CryptoPrevent.

Don't know if this was a coincidence or not.

It could have been CryptoPrevent as I think that takes over your computer.
