Unhappy User profile won't load

Help!! I cannot load windows on my PC. The message is 'The User service profile failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded'. I have hit F2 on load-up but cannot see anything in set-up that will help me load into Safe Mode to go back to a restore point. Luckily I have this laptop to be able to post for help.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Moonshine. Unfortunately the sites you suggested were not able to help. The second one said that in set-up Advanced Boot Options would let me access Safe Mode set-up but I don't have this option available in Advanced mode and unless I can get into Safe Mode I can't do anything at all. Also suggested log into an administrator account but my PC has only one user account set up and this is the one I cannot access.

How are you trying to access Safe Mode?

I am trying all the options of F2, Del or F8 at start-up. The only option I get is Boot options as I described before which do not show me a Safe Mode option at all.

After pressing the F8 key and seeing the Boot options menu, press the Esc key.
Does this then show the Safe Mode options?

To clarify - after pressing the Esc key, press the F8 again continually.

I had the same problem on one of my computers a couple of days ago.
It was caused by a Microsoft Critical Update. System restore fixed it.

Post Re: User profile won't load

Moonshine, I obviously confused Set-up facility and Boot Options. F12 and Del were taking me into the motherboard set-up utility and I was obviously missing the moment at which F8 triggered boot options to allow me to go into Safe Mode which I have now got to work and have used System Restore to take me back a week and things seem to be back to normal.

Peru, When I went into System Restore I noticed a Critical Update recorded for 10/4/18 - guess, like you, this was what caused the problem.

Thanks very much, guys, for helping me.
Think next Friday the 13th I will just stay in bed!

I had a similar thing with windows 10 last November - turned out the OS was corrupted (that's what Curry's said) and a re-install was done. I could not access restore or safe mode, so I was stumped.

Glad you got yours sorted.
