Default Personal Cloud or NAS Drives

Hi,

I currently have a Seagate NAS 2TB drive attached to my PC.

about 6 months ago, Seagate stopped supporting the ios app as it wasn't compatable with IOS11.

I looked around, and bought a Buffalo 3TB drive.

This was returned as
a) It was incredibly noisy, and
b) It actually failed after a week.

I didn't replace it with another Buffalo, just found a 3rd party app.

This app is now ending its life too.

So - I need to source a new NAS drive that - preferably isn't Buffalo.

I have looked Western Digital, but they seem to about 200+ (amazon) for a 3TB.

Looking now at Maplins (bound to be discounted soon), but I'm concerned about warranties.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Do you mean ready assembled NAS or are you just looking for a replacement drive for your existing box. ??

If drive only
PC World have a sale on this weekend 4Tb Western Digital (Red NAS Grade) 154 ... 3TB for NAS 105 ... Seems a bit better than Amazon's 200 for 3TB ...(also 2TB NAS grade only 89)

https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/compu...34979-pdt.html

ebuyer is even better 89 for 3Tb ..109 for 4Tb (both Red Grade WD)

PCW are also doing a complete WD ready built 3Tb NAS (expandable) for 169

Ran out of edit time

The other option if its a complete system you are after might be to go for the PC World 2Tb WD version at 149 and expend it with your old drive to get 4Tbs

Hi,

I've bought a "recertified" 3TB WD NAS drive (in enclosure).

Today it has arrived, and I have connected it as instructed.

However, instruction 3 is to go to "mycloud.com.setup"

This says basically the device is not connected , but the last part of the image shows the router is seeing it.

I have contacted WD support, but are the messages telling me there is a fault with the drive? (WD Support has not yet got back to me)

Thanks

WD recertified products may consist of customer return units and may be repaired. All products are tested and determined to meet WD's stringent quality standards before they are sold as recertified. Please note that some recertified items may have marks, scratches, or other slight signs of wear.

All recertified products carry manufacturer's limited warranty of 6 months.

As it is a second hand unit, it may well be faulty.
As you have already contacted WD, perhaps it's wise to wait for a response from them before you do anything.

Does seem as if it IS faulty (even though still waiting for WD to contact me).

Will try to find a phone number.

I have 30 days money back warranty too as well as the 6 months.

Thanks

Update:
WD support have contacted me.
Following their advice, I now seem to be able to access the drive from main PC and iPhone & ipad, but I am having an issue with accessing from my Laptop.

I have downloaded the WD "App", but this says "It can't find any connected devices". It says "Network Discovery is required..."

Homegroup says "There is currently no homegroup on the network"

I have joined the Homegroup I have set up on my desktop PC. My Desktop PC shows both my NASdrives, but the Laptop still only shows the older NAS drive.

How can I fix this please?
