That is one of the problems, I cannot open IE. As I said previously if I press the IE tile on the apps home page the home page for MSN for windows 8 appears not IE.

I've deleted the IE symbol from the task bar on my desktop but I don't have an IE icon on my desktop screen.

My Windows 8 is not an upgrade.

Thanks again in advance

That's because the home page in IE has been set as MSN. It's still Internet Explorer. If you go to Tools, Options in IE you can change the Home Page to anything you like.

Please excuse my ignorance but since I can't get into IE where do I find tools / options on the MSN page?

For information I'm on Windows 8 Pro

When that MSN page opens, you are actually in Internet Explorer although it may not look like it. At the top of that page inside the blue bar, hover the mouse and right click. You will be presented with a list of things - Menu bar, Favourites bar, Command Bar and Status Bar. Choose each one in turn and left click. As you do so you will see the new bars appear. The Menu bar will give you the chance to choose Tools, Internet options.

Have a look at the picture below. That is what IE10 looks like on my Windows8 setup. Does yours look like that? If so, hover your mouse just above the long horizontal address bar in the blue surround. Now right click and you should see the options I mentioned.

Click the Spanner icon then View IE on the Desktop then press the Alt tab to show the Menubar.
Whilst it is showing, click the View tab, then Toolbars to add what you require.

If you have another browser installed and have it set to default, the IE Tile changes its style and when clicked, opens IE10 automatically in the Desktop environment.
