Default Gmail ~ 'Woohoo! You've read all the messages in your inbox.'

If this infantile, idiotic and irritating message annoys you as much as it does me, here's a way by which you can avoid seeing it! Once you've read your mail, in your Inbox you'll see headings 'Unread' and 'Everything else' which will each probably have this symbol ˄ next to them. When the symbol looks like that, you'll see the list of email in your Inbox and the tiresome 'Woohoo! You've read all the messages in your inbox.' To hide this simply click ˄, it will change to ˅ and the message will be hidden. You can leave it like that permanently as when any new email comes in, you'll see a number next to 'Inbox' showing how many have arrived and are unread. You can collapse the list of mail the same way if you want to.

This works in the new Gmail. I hadn't got round to trying it in classic Gmail, but it's probably similar there.

That's something in 15 years I have never seen!

Well, you haven't missed anything! It's so totally aggravating that I'm delighted to have found a way to avoid seeing it! I've decided to keep both 'Unread' mail and 'Everything Else' sections collapsed so that I get a chance to see my nice background picture.

On further investigation, I've found that if you go to Settings>Inbox>Inbox sections>1. Unread>Options and in the drop-down menu tick 'Hide section when empty', it will disappear altogether when no unread mail is left, only reappearing when new mail arrives. You can do the same with 'Everything else' if you want to.
