Yes, WMP still works although initially it said there was a problem and I red X'd it to close it down.

I restarted it and it told me it hadn't been shutdown properly but red X ing it again and restarting it, I was able to play the sample music - so it looks like you can uncheck Windows Media Center and you will still be good to go.

Let me know if Avast still snags the tuner.

Hi Cantrel
When I put appwiz.cpl into search it says "What programme do I want to use to open and Media centre and media player are listed but I don't want to do that do I, as if I'm using a programme I can't disable it? It's just so blinking confusing. I certainly never want a TV tuner that's for sure. I used to cope with my pc but it's a nightmare now. Thanks for your help and sorry to be such a wimp, Linda
PS I found media centre in programmes and selected windows features and deselected media centre and got the warning you quoted so am trying that After all I can reactivate it if it messes up at least I hope I can - fingers crossed.

It's a control panel cmd.

Try typing programs and features instead.

I've just logged in with my Win 7 laptop and this is what I see in Turn Windows features on or off -

As you can see, you can uncheck each item individually.
