And in this case the 2 extra large black and tri-colour will set you back ?30 from HP themselves. Which I suppose begs the question, why not order several printers at ?17 each and throw them away when the ink runs out?
The point of the post was for anyone toying with the idea of buying replacement inks to think about buying a new printer instead. I for one won't buy any more replacement cartridges. My last printer Canon PIXMA MP495, was purchased before Christmas for 25 quid and if I get 12 months + out of it then I'll be happy. I'll then buy a new one ! I know it's not green or ethical but the cost of replacement ink dictates my reasoning.
I would have no qualms in doing exactly the same thing as you were it not for the fact that I don't think I would get more than 2 months out of the machine before at least one of the colours ran out. With tri-colour that means one out, all out. I also print photo's from time to time and this particular model doesn't come out on top of the pile for that.
Having said that, anyone looking for a general purpose printer that isn't likely to get heavily used would be silly not to grab this offer.
Before you buy a cheap printer you might want to check that the ink cartridge or cartridges that come with are full capacity ones. It has been known for new printers to come with low capacity cartridges.
