I fully understand why ads are used and if businesses make money from them, fine. I just ignore them in newspapers and magazines. Online I block them. Like Picaso, I don't want to see them. We don't have a TV so aren't subjected to TV ads, but the remote for the radio is very handy when listening to a commercial station.

Oh yes!
Why would a company pay £250k for 30 seconds during the FA cup final (if they still call it that), or during a pivotal episode of Corrie?

I used to be involved in the making of commercials and it really it mega big business, I think John Lewis spends on average £6M just to make its Christmas commercial!

It may not have you rushing to the phone to buy car insurance, or camping outside Curry’s to buy a telly - but for years now you have subliminally been subjected to various goods they sell and thus becomes one of the first places you’ll look when you want to buy a telly etc.

😲 what? You can survive without a telly? Is this possible? Don’t tell me you one of those strange people who still reads books! Or - even more strange - spends all evening with your ear wedged against your crystal set listening to Radio 4!

I need at least an hour of Discovery Channel, a smattering of Corrie and watching that new soap - when “Harry met Megan”.

Not quite ~ our radio is a bit more modern than that, although I do listen to Radio 4 a lot along with Radio 3 and Classic FM, the latter is where I mute their ads. We watch DVDs quite a lot too.

That lady has played her best role so far, her pinnacle of success you might say!

Hmmm I think her best role has yet to come......... the divorce settlement!

And I guess I have to take my hat off to you (I do have one!) re: the telly, I personally would be lost without it!

I wouldn't be at all surprised by that, in fact I'll probably be more surprised if it doesn't happen! I'm not a big fan of the Daily Mail, but these articles make interesting reading:

Germaine Greer: Royals didn't want Meghan Markle's father at wedding | Daily Mail Online

Thank god he’s just Hewitt son!

Oh! And I’ve no doubt Mrs Markle will be making a lucrative career out of appearing on every American talk show and being interviewed by every gossip mag!
