Followed tenforums link, selected option 3, then was able to 'take ownership', then a reboot.

Will all system restore points from now work?

You will have to try it and see, but I think I would now go for the repair install option.

Just tried restoring back to latest restore point (today), and giving me an 0x80070005 error, reference to appstaging.

The reason I suggested you go for a repair install was because you were also getting an error code when trying the restore from the advanced boot options.

I think this would point to file corruption which would warrant a repair install.

I think I will have to try a repair option.

With the repair option, all the programs and documents that are already on here, will all of that be retained ?

Yes. Tick the option to keep apps, files and settings. Follow the instructions in the link on my first post.

With the Windows Media Creation tool, does it make a difference if Windows came pre-installed on a recovery partition (Windows 7 originally)?

With that link you provided earlier, do you rate Easy Recovery Essentials? Have you tried it? Should I use the Media Creation Route first?

You do not need the recovery option as you can already boot into Windows. I used the Microsoft media creation tool to create an install iso which I burned to Dvd. Then I ran it from within Windows. I did not lose any files or programs. It fixed my restore point errors and some others.
Quote:
Begin the repair installation process by inserting the Windows 10 DVD or USB into your PC. If you have a Windows 10 ISO image, double-click the ISO image to mount it as a virtual DVD instead.
When prompted, run “setup.exe” from your removable drive to begin setup; if you’re not prompted, manually browse to your DVD or USB drive and double-click on setup.exe to start.

I am currently in the process of using the Windows Media Creation Tool, downloading, and creating a USB of W10.
