Default Re: Unable to Update my Win10 Desktop...Error 0x800705b4

Just a quick update: I have now uninstalled Microsoft Office 2016. When I tried to do an update without a tick on Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows (that's after I have uninstalled the Office 2016 already) the machine was quick to say that it's up-to-date.

Currently doing another check for updates with a tick on Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows and again it's taking ages. Won't be surprised if it will bring up error code again.

Will update you on here.

Addendum: Check for updates has finished before I submit this reply. It's the same error code again 0x800705b4

Shall I uninstall the Office 2013?

Right click on it first in Programs and Features and select Repair.

The easiest way to get to Progs & Features is to go Start - type appwiz.cpl and press enter when it comes up.

Keep in mind that even if you follow these recommendations, you might still run into issues when you use two versions of Office on the same PC. If you decide not to keep both versions and you uninstall the earlier version, you might need to repair the version remaining to make sure that the file associations will work correctly.

Quick update again: I have also uninstalled my Microsoft Office Standard 2013(I repaired it first before uninstallation) after uninstalling earlier my Microsoft Office Pro 2016. I tried to check for Windows Updates again with a tick on Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows...and voila no more error code and it's saying my machine is up-to-date. So happy now...Thanks esp. to Cantrel!

My next task is to read Tornado's tutorial on using Macrium Reflect Free to create a system image AND create those...but that will be for later.

Again thanks Cantrel!

Glad to see that you are now sorted and thanks for the update.

Did you try the updates after repairing but before uninstalling Office 2013 ?

BTW - You're welcome

Thumbs up Re: Unable to Update my Win10 Desktop...Error 0x800705b4

This is what happened: I uninstalled Microsoft Office Pro 2016 without repairing it first...check on updates showed same error code when there's a tick on Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows. Next I decided to also uninstall Microsoft Office Standard 2013 but I did a repair first...check for updates after repair showed same error code so I proceeded with the uninstallation. Subsequent check for updates with and without tick on Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows gave no more problem/error code and it's saying my machine is up to date.

I don't have an explanation for that - I assume they were both genuine Office copies ?

Did you have any problems with that update error code prior to installing Office 2016 ?

The Microsoft Office Pro 2016 I got is for being an employee of the local council but I have quit that job for almost a year now so I don't know if it's because of that(that's why it's not working anymore?). My Office 2013 Standard is a trial one(that came when we bought this pc) that ended already. Both of them when I'm opening says it needs to be activated...and I presumed it wants me to buy a license so I just installed Open Office. I never had that update error code before.

My Toshiba laptops (circa 2010 and 2011) came with a 60 day trial version of Office but they went when I got rid of the bloat, so I've never experienced the problem you've had which seems to have been Office related for some reason or another.
