Default Best free mixing software for PC?

I've really enjoyed using Audacity for recording & editing music tracks, but would like to get into mixing tracks seamlessly (I know it takes practice!).

Any ideas as to what free music mixers their are out there for the novice?

I've come across Mixx https://www.mixxx.org/ which looks appealing, but are there any that let you save/record your mixes after?

I though you could do that with Audacity, or are we at cross purposes.

You can work on individual multiple tracks with audacity and mix them seamlessly in either stereo or mono and then save the mix as a more stable WAV, AIFF, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC and MP2 using standard Audacity.

Admittedly MP3 is by far the more usable format for writing to disc or USB for playing via an MP3 player or just adding audio tracks to stuff in general but Audacity can't ship with MP3 compatibility due to licencing constraints. You need to install their free 'Lame for Audacity' add-on. Audacity will then give the option of saving anything you create or mix as MP3 along with libary information, such cover images where available, track name and artist which will automatically display on a player which has a screen while the track is playing.

Alternatively installing the optional FFmpeg library add-on will allow saving in many more audio formats two of which are MP4 and WMA. All of which can be useful for adding tracks to types of video as well as recording and playback via compatible audio systems.

Thanks for the reply Jak.

You can overlap tracks together manually and get a half-decent mix if you are lucky, but as far as I'm aware, you can't change the bpm of tracks with great effect in Audacity, so was wondering if their are any free alternatives out there that could do this.

I enjoyed reading your reply, and have noted a couple of tips from it - thanks!
