Default Windows XP Start-Up Issues

I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 3

My pc is very slow at start-up - I have to wait for my Cannon Printer menu to appear on the screen and I receive messages such as: 'How to keep your computer up to date'. All of this takes considerable time and leaves me sat twiddling my thumbs.

Is there a way to stop this? I seem to remember something about being able to close down certain applications at start up but can't remember the method involved.

Any help would be appreciated...

For a start mitch your XP is not supported now by Microsoft so all sorts of things will be or could possibly be about to go wrong. Can we ask why you have not moved onto Windows 7 which at least has a bit of life left in it and supported for a little longer?
It is so long ago that I had XP that I cannot remember how you did what you are requesting, but I,m sure some of our forumites still have XP on another computer and can help, but they more than likely only have it as as a secondary ~OS~ and have a more updated Version as their working version. Might be the time to move on. Would you run a car that has no parts available and you know the big end is on the way out. ?????

You can modify your start up items in msconfig.

Go Start - type run and press enter, then in the run box type msconfig or msconfig.msc and press enter.

Click on the Startup tab where you can uncheck those items that don't need to run in the background or on boot - click on Apply - OK - Restart
