Exclamation Malware Removal - READ THIS BEFORE POSTING

The Malware Removal Help & Analysis Forum

This forum is designed to rid your computer of harmful software, often referred to as spyware, adware or malware. It's possible to run simple analysis tools to find out where these unwanted programs may be hiding. The tools produce log files which can be copy & pasted on to the forum. A trained analyser will then provide you with advice on the best course of action to remove any resident malware.

Removing malware can sometimes be a painstaking process and can often take several sweeps before getting the all clear. We ask you to be patient while receiving help from the volunteers and read the following important guidelines before you begin.

* You act on any advice you find or are given in the Webuser.co.uk forums AT YOUR OWN RISK. Please read our site terms for a full disclaimer. This is not an official service and advice is offered by volunteers.

* Please ONLY follow advice in this forum posted by members identified as "Global Moderator" beneath their username. This ensures you receive advice from volunteers who've been trained extensively in malware removal techniques. This is for your machine's safety. While often well intentioned, advice from members not authorised to help in this forum may compromise your machine further. Such posts will be removed without warning if seen.

* Help is only available for personal use (home computers). If you are on your work computer, we won't be able to help. A 'Work' computer in this context includes any PC used in a commercial environment and any used by self employed individuals.

Before You Begin Posting

* BACKUP YOUR DATA!! - It's essential that you backup your data before proceeding with any cleaning process. Malware can often render your machine inoperable and the last thing we want is for you to come unstuck half way through an attempted removal process. The backup should be made to a secure location such as a burnable DVD/CD, external backup drive, or another computer. Here is a list of backup software/options you can use:

Do's and Don'ts

* If you suspect your computer is infected, please do NOT carry out any financial transactions on the infected machine, login to any online email accounts or financially sensitive websites until given the all clear. Changing the passwords to any of these accounts from a non infected machine may be advisable.

* Please do not post your log or request for help in someone else's thread. We have a strict one user per thread policy. Such posts are likely to be removed without explanation. In addition, please do not start multiple threads on the same issue. Duplicate threads will also be deleted without explanation.

* Please keep all replies in your original thread. If you can't find your original post, check the Currently Active Users listing at the bottom of the main forum page. Click your own username to bring up your profile page: Then click the Statistics tab followed by Find all threads started by *your username*. This will bring up a list of your posts. Find the appropriate post and click the link.

* If you run an anti-virus check or spyware removal tool immediately before posting your log, please ensure you have restarted your machine before generating a log file from the first analysis tool requested. Some malware is only properly removed upon reboot.

* Please include a breakdown of the problem(s) you are experiencing when you post your log and keep the Malware Removal helper informed about the machine's progress throughout the fix.

* If you are waiting longer than 48 hours for a reply to your post, please click here and post a reminder. Ensure you include the URL to your thread.

* Do not post your log at more than one Malware Removal Help forum as this may lead to conflicting advice which is counter productive.

* Do not run any other malware removal tools unless specifically advised to do so and keep system changes to a minimum.

* Familiarise yourself with how to disable your security software as you may well be asked to do so during the course of any instructions provided. Security software would include antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-malware and firewall programs. A list of instructions on how to disable most of the popular security software can be found here.

* And last but not least, please tell the Malware Removal Helper the outcome of any fix they provide. Analysing logs is a time consuming exercise so it's only polite to inform them of the outcome and say thank you if the fix is successful.

Ready? Now Post Your Request For Help!

Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: If you are not sure which version applies to your system (32 bit or 64 bit), download both and try each of them. Only the correct version will run properly.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make two log files (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Open each log file (starting with FRST.txt) in notepad, click Format from the upper menu and UNcheck Word Wrap.
  • Then press Ctrl-A to select all text and then Ctrl-C to copy the text to the clipboard.
  • Now start a new thread in the Malware Removal Help & Analysis forum by clicking the New Thread button located in the top left just under User Options.
  • In the data-entry window, write a description of the problem(s) you are having and then beneath, press Ctrl-V to paste the log into the window.
  • Then click the Preview Post to proof read your post. When you're happy with your request for help, click the Submit New Thread button.

Note: Due to the size of the two log files, you may have to post them in successive replies to your thread.
