Default Canon Pixma ip4200 red text comes out brown

My trusty old Canon ip4200 has recently developed a fault: if any text in a document I print (.docx, .xlxs, .pdf) includes bright red/scarlet it prints as a dark muddy brown. I just took one such document (.docx) and changed it to .htm and it printed perfectly. A couple of weeks ago I did print a .pdf containing red text successfully immediately after performing a deep clean which had been suggested to me as a possible cure, but the following document reverted to muddy brown.
Advice most welcome!

Print heads wear out over time. Yours is probably faulty. Many printer manufacturers include new heads with their new cartridges. Unfortunately Canon use separate print heads. They are available, but it may be more cost effective to buy a new printer.

What does the 'nozzle check' print out look like ?

I presume the OS is up to W7 ?

Have you changed the ink cartridge recently. What make are you using. Try taking the cartridge out and given it a good shake.

Note my post from 13/4/17.

Was in PC World today and noted that the Canon Pixma MG5750 multi function printer is on sale for 49.00. Has been in CA mag at 77, so seems a good saving. Don't know how long the ink cartridges supplied in it will last but I know that the genuine ones for the earlier MG series with the two colour cartridges are expensive so if you only like genuine and need some, get yourself another new printer and a five ink system for 49.
Might be a better buy than getting ink all over your fingers. LOL

These cheap buy printers come with tiny 'starter' cartridges.

Check out the price of a full new set and sit down first!

I switched to Brother when my Canon failed, they come with FULL cartridges and lasted nine months.
