Default Mouse not working

Hy guys and girls,

I need your help again.

After resetting my Dell Inspiron laptop the mouse is not
recognised although the touchpad is.

The mouse is a wired (USB) hp version.

Cheers,

P

Try a different USB port.
What does Device Manager say?

All USB ports the same - no joy.

Device Manager,
Under Touchpad, reports is mice working properly.
Under Other Dvices it reports Unknown Device.
Under Univeral Serial Bus controllers I have four that have a yellow question mark flag.

Right click on those with yellow alerts and select Update Driver to see if that makes any difference.

In Device Manager click on View/Show hidden devices to see if there are any more yellow alerts.

I get the report,

An error occured on installation of driver;
Contact hardware developer.

I have looked at the hp site but cannot find a link to download a mouse driver.

Would it be advisable to purchase a new mouse ?

The driver is probably a generic Windows driver if it is just a regular mouse with only two buttons and a scroll bar.

Try deleting the drivers for the USB ports in Device Manager and restart the computer. See if the warning triangles go away and if the mouse works.

Try updating and check for other yellow alerts as I've suggested.

An alternative to updating is when you select Update Driver, select Browse my computer - Let me pick... then click on the driver and then on Next where it will reinstall.

If you still have the Unknown Device then try that on that one.

Tried all that all to no avail.

When I boot up the mouse tracker light comes on (during the black screen)
but then goes out on the next phase and mrs mouse is dead.
