Default External Hard Drive not recognised

Good Afternoon All

I have just plugged in my Seagate Expansion Portable Drive and the computer will not recognise it.

I use this External HDD regularly to back up my documents (last time on 21.12.17) and it usually works OK.

The entry on Device Manager is shown below.

What are my options to get it working again?

Regards

Roy

If it shows up in Device Manager then right click on it and select Update Driver, using the default search online.

You can also select Browse my computer - Let me pick... then click on the driver listed and then on Next.

It may be listed in Disk Drives or Portable Devices.

If that doesn't do it then select Uninstall then Action/Scan for hardware changes.

I assume you have unplugged it, rebooted and tried it again ?

Can you post a screen shot of what it says in Disk Management?
Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management

You may need to assign it a drive letter.

Sorry everyone - problem corrected itself !!

Had done most - if not all - of your kind suggestions including disconnecting but not re-booting.

Put computer to sleep for a couple of hours then when I woke it up and logged in (with password) I decided to give the HDD another go and hey presto !! all working again.

Many thanks for your prompt help - I am going to bookmark/print this thread for future reference.

Sorry to have been a nuisance.

Best regards

Roy

No problem at all - guess the computer must have just been tired

TIP:

Sometimes switching the PC off
then changing the USB port works,
my Logitech keyboard does this occasionally too.
