Can go Start - right click on Computer and select Properties then click on System Protection.

Click on Configure and let us know the size allocated to the restore points and how much has been used.

Close that window and click on System Restore and check the box to show more restore points - do you have a lot of auto restore points created ?

Have a read through this article to see if yours is set differently as it would seem that VSS is being triggered by possibly a setting in Task Scheduler.

Hi Cantrel,seems I am using 6.86Gb and I've 7.45 Gb allocated. I also have 5 restore points

Read through the article you advocated and I don't thing my settings varied too much from the shown settings in the spiel----made good reading though, just restarting my pc now Alex

Are the restore points spread out date-wise and not more than one for each date unless you had installed something ?

I wonder if this will do anything for you if you are still getting the freezes.

Run a command prompt as an admin and enter this cmd then create a restore point or system image.

vssadmin delete shadow /all

and confirm - let me know how many it says there are to delete.

I don't think the Event ID 8194 has anything to do with VSS starting, although who knows - but the steps in this article should stop that error from appearing in Event Viewer.
