Sorry to hear about your fall and hope everything is okay now.

Do you get the same freeze with the mouse when you are booted into Safe Mode with Networking ?

Just reading back through your thread, when you get that WMI error in Event Viewer, do you also always get another with it ?

Then perhaps its something in your Startup menu.

Checking to see if it still occurs in a clean boot may ID what is causing the glitch.

Go Start - type msconfig and press enter when it comes up.

Click on the Startup tab and click on Disable all - Apply - OK - Restart and check.

If it doesn't then go back into msconfig and recheck the box for one item at a time - Apply - OK - Restart.

If it continues then go back in to msconfig and click on the Services tab.

Check the box to Hide all Microsoft services and that is a must before you click on Disable all - Apply - OK - Restart.

Before clicking on Disable all, make a note of any services that are showing as stopped and if your antivirus reinstates itself when you click on Apply.

As there could be more non-MS services than programs in the Startup menu, it's usual to re-enable a few of those at a time rather than just re-enabling one at a time.

You can restore your Start up items and Services to default by going into msconfig and clicking on the Normal start up button, but if you need any not to run then go back to the tab and uncheck its box - Apply - OK - Restart.

Generally, you don't need any items checked under the Startup tab - I just have Realtek HD Audio Manager and Macrium enabled in mine - anything else is just a waste of memory with them running in the background.

It's a cracker! I've done everything as you suggested ,at least half a dozen times but to no avail! The glitch is still there, maybe I'll just have to live with it. As I say, I only lose a minute downtime, thank you for all your help and interest Alex

It's strange that it doesn't occur in Safe Mode but in normal mode even in a clean boot.

As it sorted itself out after the antimalware scan, then run another scan.

You haven't said if you get the same accompanying error as well as that WMI one when you get them.

I'm getting lost here as I'm not too well up in computer tech. However in event viewer I notice Event Id 8219 Source Vss, does this make any sense? Alex
