Default VLC Media Player update to v3.0.0

When I checked VLC, as it claimed to be up to date I wasn’t able to get the update via the program, but the new version is available from the VideoLAN site now:

If you’re running a different OS, have a look here for the version you need:

It's called 'Vetinari' and you can install it over the previous version.

According to MajorGeeks, v3.0.1 is available, but the VideoLAN site still shows v3.0.0.

Doubtless knowing VLC they will Have a new name for the Next Update. Though I don't think they can beat Vetinari . LOL

When I checked for updates in the VLC programme it said that I had the latest version 3.0.0, but then File Hippo App Checker said that version 3.0.1 was available, so I got it from their site.

Any of you guys ever used the Videolan forum?

I have only ever posted 2 queries but never had any replies.

Am I wasting my time?

I've been to the VideoLAN forum sometimes, but I don't think I've ever posted there. I once got an answer to a problem because someone else had posted about the same thing!I've reverted to v2.2.8 anyway because v3.0.0 wouldn't play our DVDs, which is mainly what we use VLC for. VLC couldn't display the video, just the audio, so we went back to v2.2.8 which had always worked well and still does.

Thanks Madeline that's interesting.
I am on 2.2.6 and maybe I'll stick with it.
Except that could be why I can't get the Tunein Radio plugin to work.
That's my current problem.
I did put a query on here about it too but that wasn't answered either.
I know VLC is recommended all the time but it seems complicated to me and not at all intuitative.

That's probably the safest option, although v2.2.8 has been fine for us. If you want to try it, you can download it here:

Index of /pub/videolan/vlc/

Scroll down nearly to the bottom of the page to find it. As far as TuneIn Radio is concerned, I've found a couple of articles which may be helpful:

Thanks for the advice Madeline.

I have installed 2.2.8 of VLC.

But I am giving up on the Tunein radio plugin - too much hassle!

I have it on my phone & tablet so that will have to be enough.
