Default Win 7 activation after 2020??

I've got a 3 licence Win7 DVD with only one used so this has been concerning me for a while. But as the time is drawing nearer I've decided to look into it.

It's a YES, but with all the MS project fear caveats. They really don't want you to do it do they.

"Windows 7 can still be installed and activated after end of support; however, it will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses due to the lack of security updates. After January 14, 2020, Microsoft strongly recommends that you use Windows 10 instead of Windows 7."

Look at the FAQs list here

Sounds a reasonable warning to me. Does not stop you installing Win 7 if you want to take the risk.

I'll be considering still using Windows 7 after January 14, 2020. From the FAQ:
Quote:
What happens if I continue to use Windows 7?

You can continue to use Windows 7, but after support has ended, your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Windows will continue to start and run, but you will no longer receive software updates, including security updates, from Microsoft
Either that or a change to a Mac or a Linux distro.
They also say:
Quote:
Will Internet Explorer still be supported on Windows 7?

Support for Internet Explorer on a Windows 7 device will also be discontinued on January 14, 2020. As a component of Windows, Internet Explorer follows the support lifecycle of the Windows operating system itís installed on.
Not a worry as i don't use IE very much.

I won't be binning my Win 7 machine after that date as I think others will still be using theirs and may need help - which is one of the reasons I haven't updated it - that and I think the AMD GPU is probably not compatible with Win 10.

I'm still using a couple of XP computers with no security issues.
The most likely problem that you will run into after a while is that fewer browsers will support older operating systems.

That's true and the same could apply to some security programs, although Norton Security and Norton Internet Security still support XP and Vista.
