Go to www.tweaking.com and download the free version of the Windows Repair program and click on Option 2 then on Open Pre-Scan - Start Scan.

When the scan is complete, there are options to repair Reparse Points and Environment Variable but let me know if it reports missing Cat and Mum files.

If you need to repair any Reparse Points, click on Repair for those a second time to see if any are outstanding, but after the Environment Variable repairs, run the Pre-Scan again to confirm they have been repaired.

I’ve had different trouble with Windows Update on Windows 7 recently, so if you have any further trouble after following Cantrel’s instructions, have a look at the following thread and see if there’s anything useful for you there:

Go to Windows Update>Change settings. In the drop-down menu choose “Never check for updates” and click “OK”. Close Windows Update, reboot, then reopen Windows Update>Change settings, in the drop-down menu choose “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install” and click OK.
Just done the above Madeline and it worked a treat! Thank you guys! Delighted! Alex
