Default Are these gone forever?

Real emergency here for a family member. She is a fanatic about photography and has kept meticulous yearly records of her two children since birth - they are now both teenagers. She believed herself safely backed up on the cloud. Her laptop has now malfunctioned and will not start at all - Curry's has told her that she has a dent in her hard disc. All her stuff was in fact backed up on the cloud - except the precious photos. She is absolutely distraught and I wondered if anyone on the forums can suggest if anything can be done.

Get a second opinion about the problem.

She did try a local firm before she went to Curry's but they told her much the same thing. She is more than willing to pay what it takes if any recovery is possible.

Take the drive out and connect to another computer and then copy the data. If you're certain that the drive has crashed you can remove it from the computer and connect it to another computer as a secondary drive. You can do this using a USB to IDE/SATA adapter.

There are firms that specialise in data recovery from damaged drives etc. The following firm seems to be fairly reputable judging by its clients. It offers a free consultation so your family member has nothing to lose by giving it a call.

https://www.krollontrack.co.uk/services/data-recovery/

I have no connection to the firm. Other similar firms can be found by searching for 'data recovery firms'.

Good luck.
