As far as I am concerned any web site that tells me something is on sale for £9.95 but when I dig deeper, and I had to dig deep, I find that a) there are various prices for different levels of protection and only for limited times. b) I can buy a cheaper version but there is a "professional" version available. I reckon it isn't worth my time to go any further. Why would a "professional" computer get different viruses to my domestic ones. No sorry I will stick with what I have and keep my hard earned in my pocket.

It seems to have some merit: From the faq
Quote:
You canít clean an infected computer using a program running on the infected PC, because the infection is running and will trick the program that tries to remove it. The FixMeStick runs as a separate system and runs while all other programs and infections are not (it does this by rebooting the computer). The infection is not running, and so it canít interfere when the FixMeStick finds and removes it.
Whether or not it is better than other solutions we will not know until someone tests it and makes a comparison.

The tools that Kevin uses doesn't necessitate a machine to be booted up into Safe Mode, so that first line is misleading, but having said that, when I have advised someone to run the ESET Free Online Scanner, I've always advised to download and run it in Safe Mode with Networking.

There are some good free disinfection tools available as well as Helpers without the need to go buying specialist tools.

ESET I've mentioned, there's the free version of MBAM and AdwCleaner which can all be run safely by the average user.

Perhaps Kevin will see this thread and give his take on it.
