Default 'Snoozing' with Gmail!

One of the new features which was mentioned in issue 527 of CA and elsewhere too is about Snoozing emails. Recently I updated to the new Gmail, but where was 'Snooze'? This article from Tech Advisor gave some good instructions - but still I couldn't find 'Snooze', there was no clock icon as mentioned and illustrated in the Tech Advisor article.

How to Snooze Gmail Messages - Tech Advisor

Eventually I discovered that you need to have 'Conversation View' enabled in Gmail which wasn't the case with me.

I found this useful article in Gmail Help:

Snooze emails until later - Computer - Gmail Help

I found this sentence slightly confusing
Quote:
To get started, make sure your Gmail isn't in "Conversation View."
It implies that you shouldn't be in Conversation View mode and I wasn't, but no 'Snoozing' was there either. It then goes on to tell you how to group emails into conversations.

Group emails into conversations - Computer - Gmail Help

I did this to see what would happen and it did the trick -'Snooze' appeared immediately! So if you want to Snooze, make sure that you enable 'Conversation View'!

Note: Snooze isn't available in classic Gmail.

Check out Post #12 in this WU thread where there is a very good live Tutorial Video on this topic (11 minutes long) I had the same question (answered)

The advantage depends on whether it would be useful to you. Either of the first 2 links in my posts will tell you what it does Tom.

From Tech Advisor:
Quote:
An update to Gmail has a host of new features, including a snooze feature that lets you hide new emails until you're ready to action them. Here's how to snooze email in Gmail.
There's more info in the article.

From Gmail Help:
Quote:
Postpone emails and temporarily remove them from your inbox until you need them.

That seems like a silly feature to me.

I agree with Peru a silly idea, if I do not want to read a email I leave it until I do, simple and no snoozing required.

I think it would depend on what use is made of the email system. A lot of people work from home and would use it to prioritise their mail and get less urgent/important ones which they've delayed back automatically rather than forgetting all about them! I don't think I'd ever need it, but I was curious to see how to get it and how it worked.

I just simply mark them unread.

I suppose it gives people a 'nudge' to read the 'unread'! Some people will have mail in various categories with a lot more to deal with than I ever do, so I can see why it could be useful in some cases, but certainly not for me. I originally posted about it, not as a recommendation, but because I wasn't clear about how it could be enabled and I was curious. When I found out, I thought it might be useful to others if they hadn't known how to go about it either.

Sometimes I get the impression that people like 'Google and others are desperately trying to think of some new quirky 'feature' we'd all like to have - and failing dismally!
