Default Flickr sent me an email but doesn't recognise my address ?

Got an email from Flickr saying it's transferring to Smug Mug (whatever that is !)
I followed the link in the email to delete my account, not having knowingly used it (or Yahoo) for years.
Couldn't sign-in due to email address not registered.
So how the heck did they send me the email ?
Can't find any other way to contact them without signing in.

Anybody got any ideas?

Is it a no reply email ?

You could try registering on the forum and asking.

It looks like there's a discussion about the take over.

Why are you 'following' links in emails to delete an account you don't have?

Cantrel : Many thanks, great idea, wish I'd thought of it, I will follow it up.

Yes it is no reply.

Moonshine : Well funnily enough, because they'd sent the email I thought I must still have the account !!!!

Just puzzled they didn't recognise the address they'd sent the email to.

@ rufford155

There's a bit more info about Flickr/SmugMug in this article from The Register:

Yahoo! dismemberment! begins! as! Oath! offloads! Flickr! • The Register
Quote:
SmugMug now the proud owner of more than twenty billion photographs

Yahoo!’s photo-sharing service Flickr has been acquired by SmugMug.

It was not easy but I finally found a way to submit a query and they came back to me fairly quickly.

They have now deleted my Flickr account but they didn't explain how they managed to send an email to my address that I couldn't log in with.

By a separate route they told me I also had a yahoo.co.uk email address but I couldn't log in with that either.

I am now waiting for them to confirm that they have also deleted any yahoo account that I might have had.

It's encouraging that you've actually got an answer from them!

I have had a lot of answers but they don't make a lot of sense !
Here's just the latest exchange :

Hi John
Thanks for spending the time to reach out to us again.
I apologize for any confusion stemming from the email you received.
This email was simply providing you with the login ID that was associated with your Flickr account. However, as I have mentioned, it looks like this Yahoo ID has since been deleted.
You can confirm by going to login.yahoo.com and entering "xxxxxxxxxxxx" and clicking next. You'll see that our system doesn't recognize this ID, confirming that it doesn't exist.
I hope this helps to explain things.
If you have any other issues, definitely let me know.

Hello again Courtney,
I’m sorry but I’m still not entirely happy with this.
“…it looks like this Yahoo ID has been deleted.”
What? – in the few seconds between receiving the message and trying to use it ?????
That doesn’t really add up does it ?
Also you sent me an email to this address I am using now so it must be in your system somewhere even though I couldn’t sign-in with it.
I would still like a confirmation that both these addresses have been eliminated from your system.
Thank you. Regards, John

Interesting

Perhaps that may get them looking a bit closer at their records.
