Default Outlook 2007 - Sending emails via a hotspot or wifi

A question that has long been left unanswered for me...

I run Outlook 2007 through my work laptop & have access to email through my company domain name & can send emails no problem when at HQ through SMTP. I now work remotely more often & when connected to any wifi - hotel, home or iPhone hotspot (Vodafone network) I am unable to send any emails, although receiving is fine.

Being able to connect through my iphone hotspot or home wifi (ISP is Sky) would solve all my problems, but no matter what I try, the settings just don't seem to work. I've had a look at smtp2go, but still not joy.

Is there something I am missing, can someone please help?

Many thanks :-)

you need to talk to your tech support. To send mail they'll have some sort of filtering to ensure only local traffic can access the local network - to do that you'd need secure VPN access.

Alternatively the mail system would need a public web front end which obviously comes with a risk.

Either way - assuming the company's setup is secured - it's not something you can set up.
