Talking stay safe online using web of trust

here is a a tool that would possibly give paid for security suites a run for their money is web of trust mostly known as WOT. web of trust is a community based link scanner that can scan links from a Google search result to links in a forum ( for example webuser of course). it is free to use and all you would need to get started is a browser (ranging from IE to Firefox and chrome) and then visiting www.mywot.com as well as an account which you can sign up with ( you can use Facebook if you can`t be bothered to create an account). in most browsers the icon it is located in the top right corner and changes colour so if the icon is pure green like on the webuser website that means allot of people as well as 3rd party reliable sources state that a website is safe (and red means that allot of people and 3rd party reliable sources state that a site is malicious) if you see the icon in grey that means that not enough people have rated a particular site.you can input what you think of a site by clicking the icon to get more info and chose how well a site scores in your eyes in trustworthiness, vendor reliability, privacy and child safety. by helping filling in your input you would be helping millions of other people stay safe online.

I used to have WOT, but I couldn't get on with it at all unfortunately, so I stopped using it. These days, I tend to use Norton's 'Safe Web' and McAfee's 'SiteAdvisor'.

I think Site Advisor was the first programme of this type, now all the anti-virus programmes have it built in. Not sure their absolute reliability can be guaranteed though.

Joe.

Thumbs up Re: stay safe online using web of trust

I have used this for years and it has been very useful. I just installed it and have never set up an account.
