Default Windows V Chromebook

Hi.
My granddaughter's birthday coming soon she has an old laptop of mine its a HP Compaq. Its getting very sluggish. She needs a computer as you all know they do a lot of their homework at home on their laptops.
Now to my question I'm thinking of getting her a new one for her birthday But looking for some advice she uses chromebook in school and the hp windows 10 at home.
What would the advantage of getting a chromebook to a windows laptop, Anyone on here got a chromebook that may advise me on if it's okay or would windows be the best option. I now nothing about the chromebook so i'm bit confused They get on well in school.
Can chromebook do what a windows laptop can do ??.
Any advise Please.
Thanks.

If she uses a chromebook in school i'd imagine she's well on her way to knowing how to operate one. and already familiar with Google's OS and alternatives to Microsoft Office etc...

As far as printing goes the printer gets setup via Chrome. Found this link: http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/ho...our-chromebook

All my grandchildren live in Australia and the school uses Chromebook laptops and for what i can see they are just as good as Windows and dont have the bloatware that other ois come with so are fast i would add that the laptops you have to get them in Australia are not there cheap units you have to get them through the school as they are pre loaded with the education software.
