The MS site will tell you to how to use the USB stick to save the software on it and takes you through the stages.

Then it's a simple matter to open the USB from Windows and choose setup / install.

It then asks you if you want to update and KEEP YOUR FILES and SETTINGS
or go for a complete new installation, in which it wipes the disc clean.

You can run this update from Windows using the USB stick,
You only need to boot from it if Win 10 is a deader.

It is also much much quicker than allowing MS Update to bodge it, especially if you have to do many PCs - I have 4 to do.
