Yes.Shift key is the one under the cap key?. We did the disc cleanup and I timed it from clicking on the edge icon on taskbar to open ready to use took 30seconds but it flashed twice.
Maybe give it a run like that.?
Many Thanks.Sorry not very techy.

That's okay.

Try using the right hand SHIFT key should there be something wrong with the left one.

Let's see if there's anything wrong with the HDD.

Download the 30 day trial of HDSentinel which will give a written report on the health and performance of the HDD.

Download the Trial v5.30 (ZIP) version and uninstall when done.

https://www.hdsentinel.com/download.php

If that comes up good, then right click on the start button and select either Powershell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) and enter these cmds which will take a little while to run.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Follow that one with sfc /scannow to see if it reports any corruption.

Note the space before each /

Enter exit to close the cmd window then try to get into the advanced boot options again.

If that still fails then I would suggest a repair install which should resolve most problems.

For that you will need Win 10 install media which you can create it on a DVD or USB after reading the instructions at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/soft...load/windows10

When you've done that, click on the Folder symbol on the taskbar which will open Windows Explorer.

Click on This PC and with the install media inserted, double click on its drive.

This will start the process if using a DVD but will open to the files if using an USB where you will then have to double click on setup Application.

This takes about 3Ĺhrs on mine but hopefully the dism and system file cmds should sort it.

If HDSEntinel reports any bad sectors or gives any warning then you will need to create a system image onto external media ASAP.

I'm going to shoot off for a few hours now but will be back just after 10.

One thing that will stop you accessing the advanced boot options and that is if the 490MB Recovery partition has been removed or become corrupt.

I'm not sure if a repair install will repair/replace that but right click on the Start button and select Disk Management where you should see it to the right of C:

The Win 10 upgrade from Win 7 on mine put a 450MB on in addition to the original Win 7 400MB one which is to the left of C:

The 1709 update put an additional 490MB on, so I have two Win 10 ones and the original Win 7 one.

Did you download HDSentinel ?

On my Toshiba laptops I have to press FN+ALT+PRTSC then I go Start - type paint and press enter then click on Paste when Paint opens and save it with a name.

Let me know if you need to know how to add an attachment on the forum.

It looks like the OEM Recovery partition is still there from your description.

I removed those from mine and merged the unallocated space to C: as the machines were upgraded from Win 7.
