Default POWER OPTIONS

i had a scan running and it had been going for about 1 hour when i had to go out so i left it running, when i returned ihe PC had returned to the sign on screen and the scan was closed,so i have to start it again, power options are set to never turn off, what is shutting it down ? if i now leave it to run over night it is likely to stop again, and i can't sit here for hours twiddling the mouse just to stop it shutting down.

I have my power options to never turn off anything while on AC but in my Norton Security it has a box to shutdown on completion, although it is default unchecked.

Does the program you are using have such a box ?

no options at all,it is Microsoft safety scanner which i run every now and then ,if a scan is running why does the PC think its idle and shut down.it has been running for about an hour and scanned 125,000 files but looks like it is only about 10%.

Is your SSD/HDD light still flashing to show that the program is still working ?

You could try a full scan with mrt.exe

Go Start - type mrt.exe and press enter when it comes up.

Clicking on Next will show the three types of scans it can do.
