Question LG G3 battery discharged

I have an LG G3 phone and an LG Wireless Charger Stand. A couple of days ago when I checked my phone at about 10.00pm it showed the battery level as 56%, so I put the phone on the wireless charger stand (which charges at a slow rate) and the next morning at 6.00am the phone would not switch on and it felt quite warm.
I put the phone in the fridge to cool down, and then connected it directly to the LG Charging Unit (bypassing the wireless charger) and it showed the battery level as only 1%. After a couple of hours the charge level was back up to 100%, and since then everything is working as normal.
Can anyone tell me why the battery level fell so dramatically - is it a sign that the battery might soon give out?

While I don't know how long those batteries last, here are the steps to check it.

If the remaining time on full charge is much less that what you would expect, then it could be on the way out.

However, it could be that the wireless charger wasn't working as it should.

Have you tried it since ?

Have had this problem of hot phone and not charging. Removing the battery from the phone for a few minutes worked here.

Late replying - I am not receiving notifications when anyone replies.
Wireless charger and phone both seem to be working correctly again.
