Default Pay as you go phones

Does anybody know the current market for cheap pay as you go phones ?

If you buy a new one, do you have to put a tenner on it, and then keep it as a spare ?

Or can you actually buy a new SIM card, and use the new number on an old pay as you go phone ? Again, do you have to spend a tenner or whatever to activate the new number ?

Like so .... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAYG-Pay-...8AAOSwAvJW89zo

As long as your old phone is unlocked, you can put any sim card that fits. (there are different sizes of Sims)
I have done this to keep an old spare phone in the car for use in an emergency.
If you do this, you will need to make a "chargeable call " every few months to keep the sim card activated, but a text to one of your other phones will do.

Hello,

Take a look at Tescos offerings, they have payg sim cards that carry over the value for many months , unused.

They also used to offer plenty of cheap simple phones at the bigger stores.

These SIM cards on ebay presumably come with no credit but a number. So can yoi use one to receive a few texts or calls only ?

Fraid you don't get service for free!!
You need to top up a minimum amount(,usually 10,,but you might find one with 5) to use the number.
As I said earlier,if you only receive calls, you will still need to make a chargeable call every few months to keep the service working, but the initial investment will still last for many months.
