Default Amazon Smile - shop and donate

AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices and shopping features as Amazon.co.uk The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) from your eligible AmazonSmile purchases.

More info here, in 2018 Amazon aims to include more charities.

Thanks FratPark. That's very interesting, definitely worth considering. More info here:

About AmazonSmile: Programme details and FAQ

At present, only 10 charities are supported in the UK, as shown via the link below, but I don't know whether any changes have been made.

Possibly a downside?

Thinking about it, the downside is that you're not donating to a charity - Amazon is! This could put you off from giving anything if you receive a request directly from a charity for a donation. On the other hand, if it's a charity you like, but you don't want to get on another mailing list, it's an anonymous way of helping it!

The choice of charities Amazin Smile offers is rather limited. It should not put people off donating directly as they would be giving a larger donation, no doubt, than what Amazon gives on each purchase.

That’s true, but if people buy a lot of things, I suppose they might think they’ve given enough. I liked the charities they’re supporting initially and they hope to expand eventually. In my 2nd link above, it says

Choosing a charity on AmazonSmile

At launch, 10 Charities can be chosen from to receive donations based on your Amazon purchases. In early 2018, all registered charities in the UK will be invited to apply to be part of AmazonSmile, enabling customers to select more charities, small or large, local or national.
