Default Have you checked your Startup programs recently?

Yesterday, a relative asked me about possible reasons why it was taking progressively longer for her to fully boot.
We began with her Startup items. I explained that many software vendors like to launch at startup, and will if you let them.
As well as these programs, she had other unnecessary startup items such as printers, cameras, on-demand scanners, etc. She had a long list of ticked items that were totally unnecessary at startup.
Programs normally give the option not to launch at startup during setup and in their settings.

We unticked most of them, and this alone greatly reduced her startup time. For a few items that I was unsure about, a quick google gave further advice on whether they were needed at startup.
On this W10 machine, I access Startup by right-clicking the taskbar and selecting Task Manager.
On older systems, Right-click on Start >> Run >> type msconfig into your search box >> OK.

Be careful what you untick (or disable).
Anti-virus, firewalls, network hubs/routers/adapters, real-time security programs and similar should remain enabled ... though you can replace the tick (or select Enable) later if you make a mistake.

I have just 3 Start-up entries showing, being AV Launch component, IPoint.exe and Realtek HD Audio Manager.
Windows firewall and MB Premium look after themselves.

From switching on then logging in my Windows 10 computer boots up and is ready to use in about 1 minute.

I only have Realtek HD Audio Manager enabled in mine and have trimmed some of the non MS services to make it as lean as possible.
