I use Google Drive - including Docs, Sheets etc all the time and would recommend it to anyone. Docs are great when you do not have an office programme on your computer - I do not have on my MAC. Does not have all the 'bells and whistles' which a full word processing app would have but certainly has all that I require. Google docs can later be opened as word docs etc and can easily be shared. the other side is that when saved in Drive they are synced to your phone or tablet and can be accessed on the go so long as you have internet which I have found to be a great idea. If you have a Google account you can use as part of that so just give it a go.

I have to say that I have not tried the offline thing but you can sync folders in your Drive to your computer and I believe that if you make changes to a document on your PC this will be updated to your Drive when online next. I forgot to say also that on my free Google account I have 19gb storage which includes gmail/google photos. So far I have used 2.2gb and have used Docs and Gmail for a number of years to date.

The only problem I found after updating a doc or spreadsheet was the it did not overwrite the previous document, but created a new one, so I ended up with several files called the same.

This may have been fixed now of course.

If you use Google 'Backup and Sync' see here: https://www.google.com/drive/download/backup-and-sync/

This should do the trick. You download and set it up from this link.

Unhappy Re: Google documents

I have since looked again at this as regards editing offline (as I said I don't actually use it this way) and may have given you duff info. A synced Google doc can be opened offline but as I use a MAC it opens in 'Pages' which is the native MAC word processor. Any changes made with this is synced. So in effect you will need some form of word processor on your computer to do this. I personally use Docs online only. Docs can be downloaded and will do so as "DocX" documents which can then be used in Word or similar.

My apologies if I have misled you but I would still recommend Google Drive/Docs.

Have done a bit more digging and if you are in Google Docs as apposed to Google Drive you can edit offline. See here;
