You could dial that London number and see how they go

...or do you want to try it on yourself

No chance. I will not play the scammer's game.

I just wondered if davord48 had any info as he played them along.

If I answer the call, (check the caller ID, usually a London area code) I try to sound so happy that they found out, then ask whether it was last week's accident, or the one I had yesterday that involved a Czechoslovak articulated wagon and my Lambretta, no reply.....Click !!

Afraid we do exactly the same.

I don't answer the phone on our landline unless I'm expecting a call. Otherwise I wait until the phone stops ringing, then dial 1471 to see if I recognise the number if one's been recorded. With the mobile, when it's switched on, I answer calls only from contacts.

An elderly neighbour told me that he received a call reportedly from his internet provider, who said that there was a problem with his router, and if he pressed #1 on his phone, it would connect with the engineer. Luckily he had the sense to disconnect the call (after noting the incoming caller ID) and phoned his provider from a mobile. They informed him that they make no such calls, and thanked him for the callers ID. Must ask if they got back to him.
