Default VLC Media Player update to v3.0.4 ~ 31/08/2018

VLC has been updated to v3.0.4 today, 31/08/2018. You can get the new version either via the browser or download it here:

Official download of VLC media player or Windows - VideoLAN

If you’re running a different OS, have a look here for the version you need:

I had trouble with the update via the browser on our desktop - Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit blocked the installation of the new version, so I used a downloaded setup file instead. I had no trouble on one of our laptops and I'll update VLC on the other one later. Some info from VideoLAN about this update:

Changes between VLC 3.0.3 and 3.0.4

I had the same trouble with MBAE when updating the 32-bit laptop, also I found that the MBAE VLC Shield wasn't activated when I updated the 64-bit laptop! Others have had trouble with MBAE and VLC:

VLC download site blocked - Malwarebytes for Chrome - Malwarebytes Forums

Of course the respondent was right in saying this:

However you should ALWAYS get VLC Player from the source which is VideoLAN
I had no trouble in using the setup file downloaded from VideoLAN. The following thread comes from Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Beta Forum. Although it started in 2016, the 3 most recent posts are from June 2018:

VLC Player Update Blocked - Anti-Exploit Beta - Malwarebytes Forums

Although the last post there says

Thanks for reporting. We have pushed in an exclusion. The blocks should not be happening anymore.
Clearly this is no longer the case since the latest update to v3.0.4!

I couldn't find anything about this issue on the VLC forums.

I updated VLC Player to 3.0.4 today off the "Check for updates" link
And the initial (30 MB +) download was very slow and "Failed" Nothing happened except Windows 10 firewall complained [several times] about the File in the Notifications sidebar

Tried again (exact same way) and the same data reloaded (overwrite?) in 1 minute
Windows 10 protested again, But the small VLC install window showed this time and went smoothly

Reason for the fail I suspect was a checksum error (No Notification message these days just a Non Start/Launch) and the 2nd download corrected that error

Obviously for me, the trouble was due to MBAE, so it'll be interesting to see what happens with the next update. It's not the first time I've had trouble when updating VLC. When I updated from v2.2.8 to v3.0, the audio was fine, but the video just didn't work. We couldn't watch videos or DVDs until I reverted back to v2.2.8.
