Here is the reason behind this out of cycle update http://news.softpedia.com/news/micro...2-519217.shtml
The next proper update should be on either the 9th or 10th of January "Patch Tuesday"

This one is supposed to be a patch to combat Meltdown and Spectre OS bugs in Intel and AMD and isn't the usual monthly roll up and was initially released out of cycle.

Given it has caused problems, MS may have to revamp it.

Well, my laptop appears to have no problems since the update. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Just did a manual check (a few moments ago) and All that was available was the Daily Antivirus Update for Windows 10 Defender. Let's give it 24 hours and see what shows.

I haven't had any problems on either of my two upgraded Win 10 laptops but they date back to 2011 when they were bought.

One's an Intel Celeron B800 and the other has an AMD HD6310 integral GPU.

Cheapie Toshibas, but they work fine.
