Default email and update 1709

Apologiies if I have the incorrect forum.

Just installed update 1709. Following which MS outlook 2003 won't download emails, or allow me into settings etc. Error message displayed 'the operation failed'.

In updates under '2017-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4054517)' it states 'status awaiting restart'. I have restarted PC twice but status message doesn't change.

Should I reinstall 1709? Only other option would seem to be reinstalling outlook.

I realise that 2003 is a bit dated but haven't found a more up to date software that is comparable. Any suggestions?

Thanks

gom

Status message referring to restart has now disappeared. Problem with outlook persists.

There are other issues with using Outlook 2003. Some email providers, Gmail being one, say that Outlook 2003 has security issues and will not download mail if you are using SMTP. You can set it up to use IMAP and that usually sorts it out. I haven't used MS Outlook in a lot of years to be honest I just go in to my web mail and get my emails that way. Because of that I cannot remember details regarding this problem but it will all be on Google somewhere.

I have resolved problem by 'repairing' outlook. Appears now to be functioning correctly.
