Default Problems with Skype and Realtek

My computer came with Realtek audio installed, and although I have no idea how to use it, it doesn't usually matter since I get sound with no trouble.
The exception is with Skype.

In the Skype Tools Option Audio settings I have both the speakers and microphone set to Realtek high definition audio. The microphone jack is plugged into the microphone socket on the front of the computer and is not set to mute. Yet I can get no reaction when I test the sound on the Skype audio settings and when I make Skype calls, I can hear the person at the other end but he/she can't hear me. I have fiddled haplessly with the settings in the Realtek Audio Manager to no avail - not surprising since I don't know what I am doing. It's really frustrating not to be able to use Skype - can anyone suggest anything I can try?

Default Re: Problems with Skype and Realtek

Start by making sure that you have the latest Realtek drivers.
Open Device Manager and go to “Sound, video and game controllers”.
Click on it and select “Realtek High Definition Audio”
Double click and you will get a new pop-up window with program properties and driver settings.
Go to the Driver tab and click on Update Driver.

Check that the microphone is turned on.
Go to Windows Settings by using shortcut Win+I and click on Privacy tab.
Select Microphone from the left panel and turn it ON.
You can also choose the apps you want to use your Microphone with.
