If you are running Google on Google Chrome why not try out this
Beta experiment for Google Maps called MapsGL what it does is Speeds up the Streetview response time with a Hybrid Google Earth Look (without the toolbar luggage)
and unlike the Google Maps Version It also has the "Click on a spot almost Instant Streetview" zoom in Mode (as seen on Google Earth)

To activate click the Button on the weblink then Open Google Maps in Chrome Then click on the "New" Link in the text Box
When its activated it shows as:
MapsGL enabled
No Like? Can return to The cClassic layout by clicking on the adjacent Button)

CON It may not work with certain Graphics cards (Older Models?) but if it works then Good
